2010 Convention Set for Eau Claire The annual WCTE State Convention returns to Eau Claire this year for the first time in over a decade.  Dates: October 21-22.  Mark your calendars!

New Directors Named in Districts 2, 8, 9, 12 Election results were announced at the Annual Business Meeting in October. Scott Oates of UW-Eau Claire took office as Second Vice President. Several new directors and publication editors joined the Executive Committee as well.

Revisions to Constitution, By-Laws in Works Officers and Directors of WCTE meeting in Stevens Point in February will start drafting updates to the constitution and by-laws to reflect changes in operating procedures over the past several years.  Any proposed changes will be presented to the members at the next Annual Business Meeting for a vote. 

WCTE Sponsors Classroom Research Apply for a grant to promote the teaching of English in  your school. Awards are made annually through WCTE's Robert C. Pooley Foundation. Also, you can nominate someone for a state or national award.  See the awards page for details.

Wisconsin English Journal Goes Online  With the appointment of a new Editorial Team headed by Mary Louise Gomez at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, The Wisconsin English Journal is now a fully-online publication.  Visit the WEJ Website and register to submit an article for consideration for publication in the next issue.

Did You Miss the December Update? The latest issue features articles on the revision of the Model Academic Standards, WCTE award winners, vocabulary enrichment, and much more.  Members in good standing receive their copies via email.  If you did not receive yours in December, contact John Zbikowski, WCTE Website Coordinator, to request a copy.  Use the update form to correct your address if necessary.

UW-Milwaukee Writing Project Summer Institute The UW-Milwaukee affiliate of the National Writing Project is accepting applications for its annual summer institute.  See the Bulletin Board for details.  Application Deadline: February 12.  

Friends of Niedecker Receive Poetry Foundation Grant The Fort Atkinson-based organization dedicated to preserving the legacy of the 20th-Century Wisconsin Poet received an unsolicited grant and has moved up the next Wisconsin Poetry Festival to September 2010.  See the Bulletin Board for details.

English Teacher Listserv: The Department of Public Instruction now sponsors englishk16, an unmoderated email discussion group just for teachers of English in Wisconsin.  Become eligible to post messages, and receive copies of all messages posted, by following the Listserv subscription instructions at this site.
