How do our
English Studies classrooms reflect the world around us? How do we help
students become literate problem-solvers as society becomes increasingly
complex? As our school populations change, how do we alter our classroom
practices to provide equitable learning opportunities for all our students?
How do we keep ourselves professionally current, and what forms of
professional development do we value? How do we incorporate “best” practice
into our teaching as our discipline debates and refutes it? How do we
incorporate social justice initiatives into our practice that lead to
anti-biased, anti-racist teaching? How do we teach for change?
These and other important questions, engaging ideas, and new
strategies filled the day as over 300 English teachers from around the state
attended sessions and talks given by leaders in English Studies.
