UW-Whitewater Forensics
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Forensics team is a competitive public speaking team open to all majors, grade levels, and abilities. The team travels and competes against other university speech teams at competitions throughout the country.
UW-Whitewater Forensics is rich in history. Competitive public speaking started on campus in 1936. In 1967, UW-Whitewater hosted the Pi Kappa Delta National Tournament under the direction of UW-W Director of Forensics Edna Sorber. Now, UW-W
honors Dr. Sorber's efforts with an annual tournament in her name.
Now, UW-Whitewater continues its history of competitive public speaking with over 20 active team members and seven coaches, traveling to over ten tournaments a year including the WCFA State Tournament and the NFA National Tournament.
In addition to competing, UW-Whitewater Forensics hosts two tournaments: a college tournament in November and a high school tournament in February. Four students hold executive board leadership positions. Also, UW-Whitewater Forensics is committed to outreach, holding speech workshops for high school students, mentoring fellow speech students on campus, and working within the Whitewater community. Finally, UW-Whitewater Forensics is proud to have an active alumni base which returns to campus to mentor and coach current team members.
