WHAT IS PANHELL?
HOMECOMING 2007
SISTERHOOD EVENTS

At the end of the 19th century when such a thing as higher education for women was un- heard of, eight women at the State Female Normal School in Farmville, Virginia overcame this societal injustice and announced the formation of Sigma Sigma Sigma on April 20th 1898. More than a hundred years later, that organization, adhering to the ideals of sisterhood, has flourished and grown to consist of more than 85,000 culturally diverse women nation-wide.

Through Sigma Sigma Sigma’s growth and evolution across the nation, it has remained loyal to its purpose and fundamental principles established by its founders. For collegiate chapters everywhere today, these pioneers are symbols of friendship, strong womanly character, ethical conduct, responsibility, consideration of others, and social consciousness.

Sigma Sigma Sigma uses the motto “Faithful Unto Death” and a sailboat as their symbol. The sailboat represents perpetual forward motion, never looking backward, and always making progress.
