Welcome to the Wisconsin Council on Social Work Education!

Hello Colleagues and Social Work Students:

The Wisconsin Council on Social Work Education (WCSWE) bi-annual conference is scheduled for April 12th and April 13th 2012 at the Chula Vista Resort in the Wisconsin Dells.

This year's conference is a little different than in years past as we will be meeting all day Thursday April 12th from 9 am-4pm and Friday morning 9am-12 pm. Our main topic on Thursday is extremely relevant for all social work educators and practitioners and 4 CEU's will be awarded. The total conference fee is $50, which includes the annual membership fee for WCSWE as well as the CEU's. Student registration is at a reduced rate of $10.00. The deadline for registration is April 6th.

The Field Director Consortium will precede the conference on Wednesday, 4/11 from 1-4 p.m. An agenda will be emailed to Consortium members in advance of the meeting.

Social Work Ethics and Boundaries in a Virtual World
This ethics and boundaries workshop has been designed to address the relationships between social work practice and the rapidly changing professional and personal boundaries as a result of increased interaction through social media and technology in both rural and urban practice settings. The framework for this interactive workshop has been designed to include application of case samples presented by workshop participants that provide examples of both ethical safeguards and dilemmas that have developed as a result of practitioner interactions with social media and technology in practice and personal settings.

Presenter: La Vonne Cornell-Swanson
La Vonne Cornell-Swanson is the Director of the Office of Professional and Instructional Development (OPID) for the University of Wisconsin System. Dr. Cornell-Swanson has a Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Oklahoma, a PhD in Cultural and Linguistic Anthropology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and she is licensed by the State of Wisconsin as an Independent Clinical Social Worker. Dr. Cornell-Swanson has been actively engaged in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)

Social Work Students Organizations

Social Work Student Organizations are invited to attend the presentation on "Social Work Ethics and Boundaries in a Virtual World";. In addition, the spring conference always includes students and part of the conference focuses on topics of interest to developing social workers, which will include a presentation on Certification and Licensing. This year we will have an opportunity for student organizations to present to the larger WCSWE group a poster (PowerPoint, video, etc.) presentation on the general theme "Recommendations to social work programs on how to best educate/prepare students to become social workers...";

If you have a student organization who would be interested in creating a brief presentation, please have them contact us for further details.
