This excellent opportunity is made
possible by a grant from Pearson Prentice Hall to the National Council
of Teachers of English. Its purpose is to involve an early-career
teacher in WCTE and NCTE, not just in 2009-2010 but for the future.
The award provides $500.00 to help defray costs of attending the 2009
NCTE Annual Convention in
Philadelphia and a ticket to the Affiliate
Breakfast at which each awardee will be recognized.
Who is eligible: Any early
career teacher (1-5 years experience) who has never attended an NCTE
Annual Convention and who has demonstrated a capacity for professional
leadership, as well as a willingness to join and participate in WCTE
during the 2009-2010 academic year.

Procedure: A WCTE committee will select an awardee and an alternate from
among the nominees based on demonstrated professional leadership and ability and
willingness to participate in WCTE during the 2009-2010 academic year.
Upon selection, the nominator and the awardee will both need to fill out
portions of the application, and the winner must agree to attend the NCTE
convention and the Affiliate Roundtable Breakfast, November 19-24.
The awardee's involvement in WCTE
for the following academic year can take many forms (for example, serve
on the board, chair a committee, write for publication). The
awardee's form of involvement will be settled upon receipt of the award.
