Affiliate Nomination for

NCTE Leadership Development Award

Please note: On July 6, WCTE received word that funding for the 2009 award was confirmed and that the deadline for WCTE to forward nominations had been extended to July 10.  Nominations must be acted on this week. Please check with the award coordinator for further information.

This excellent opportunity is made possible by a grant from Pearson Prentice Hall to the National Council of Teachers of English.  Its purpose is to involve an early-career teacher in WCTE and NCTE, not just in 2009-2010 but for the future.  The award provides $500.00 to help defray costs of attending the 2009 NCTE Annual Convention in Philadelphia and a ticket to the Affiliate Breakfast at which each awardee will be recognized.

Who is eligible:  Any early career teacher (1-5 years experience) who has never attended an NCTE Annual Convention and who has demonstrated a capacity for professional leadership, as well as a willingness to join and participate in WCTE during the 2009-2010 academic year.

Procedure:
A WCTE committee will select an awardee and an alternate from among the nominees based on demonstrated professional leadership and ability and willingness to participate in WCTE during the 2009-2010 academic year.  Upon selection, the nominator and the awardee will both need to fill out portions of the application, and the winner must agree to attend the NCTE convention and the Affiliate Roundtable Breakfast, November 19-24.

The awardee's involvement in WCTE for the following academic year can take many forms (for example, serve on the board, chair a committee, write for publication).  The awardee's form of involvement will be settled upon receipt of the award.
